My Story: Notes from Dr. Walkey

Curiosity is the thread that runs through every patient interaction I have. As a board-certified Internal Medicine Physician and Lifestyle Medicine Specialist my passion is to become an expert in your unique medical needs and health goals. Backed by twenty years of clinical experience, I help create clarity out of complexity to support your overall health and well-being.

I have practiced in a wide range of clinical settings, from the academic rare disease setting where I developed a program to put the Caring back in medicine, to serving the front line of those in need serving the VA veterans. Throughout, I am guided by curiosity, compassion, and a deep respect for every individual I meet.

My passion for researching medical innovation includes the nuances of menopause care. As a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner I support women through their menopausal stages by incorporating personalized hormone therapy with sustainable lifestyle changes. Most recently I led a woman’s menopausal health retreat.

Caring for both men and women across all life stages, I see myself as a partner in whatever brings you to the visit; whether it’s managing a chronic condition, navigating a new diagnosis, or simply wanting to feel better in your day-to-day life, I believe personalized care is defined by what may be imaginable and realistic for you.

The building blocks of your health journey include learning about your family history, how work, family, and life affects you, as well as your eating, fitness and sleep patterns. I consider it an honor to be invited into those conversations. To me, being a physician is about meeting my patient where they are in their journey to optimal health, listening to you, researching for you, and helping you build habits that supports your health goals.

To share, in my own midlife transition I’ve found joy in exploring practices that nurture both mental and physical well-being. I’ve discovered meditation, cold plunging, and plant-based cooking. These habits help me feel grounded and energized, and they continually remind me of the link between lifestyle and health. It can be hard to change habits but understanding the long-term goal of a happier and healthier lifespan can be highly motivating.

As a wife and mom to three, I understand how challenging it can be to prioritize health in the midst of a busy life. My empathy for life’s turns shapes how I approach caring for you. I aim to meet each patient where they are, and work with them to achieve their optimal health.

At Personal Health MD I can practice medicine the way it’s meant to be, a journey to better health and longevity!

Warmly,
Dr. Walkey
